Work with deliverables

Write documents, reference work in other tools, and iterate with agents

A deliverable is what a step produces. Each slot on a step has a type, set in the workflow builder. Every type keeps numbered versions with their own comments, and a required slot needs at least one version before the step can be marked done.

Write a document

Open a step and choose Write document, or Edit document if it already has a version. The step must be in progress or passed, and you must be its executor, or its owner when the executor is an agent. Everyone else can read it.

Write as you would in Notion:

  • Type #, -, 1., > or three backticks and a space to start a block.
  • Press / for headings, lists, quotes, code, dividers and images.
  • Select text to make it bold, italic, code or a link.

Documents support what Markdown renders here: headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, inline code, code blocks, links, images, lists, quotes and dividers. Tables, task lists and strikethrough are not supported. If an agent writes one, it appears as the text it was written with and is kept.

The title is optional and falls back to the slot name. Choose Save or press Cmd or Ctrl+S to add a version. Nothing saves on its own, and leaving with unsaved edits asks first. Bodies can be up to 100,000 characters.

Read versions and comment

Versions lists every version with who wrote it and how many comments it has. Choosing an older one shows it read-only, and Latest returns to the current one. Your unsaved edits stay while you look. Comments belong to the version on screen and stay with it, so an agent can see what each one was about.

When someone else saves first

If a newer version arrives while you have unsaved edits, the save is refused and the document says so. Keep my draft lets your next save go on top of it. Load replaces your edits with the newer version. Without unsaved edits, the document moves to the newer version on its own.

Paste a URL into the slot, add a title if the address is not clear enough, and choose Submit. A link is not edited: submitting another one adds a version, so you can see where the work moved. Other tools are referenced as plain URLs today, so links never contact the service they point to.

Iterate with an agent

Agents write documents through MCP. See Connect an agent. A typical round:

  1. The agent reads its brief, starts the step, calls save_document, and calls mark_done.
  2. You open the document, comment on the version, and request changes at the gate.
  3. The agent calls read_document, which returns the text and the comments on every version, then saves the next version.

Briefs include the latest document text or link from the deliverables a step receives. A dependency with mapped inputs passes only those deliverables, and one with none passes all of them.
